Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)

Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)

Additional Information

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) - formerly the Community Visitors Scheme, CVS -  aims to enrich the quality of life of residents of aged care homes who are socially isolated or lonely, and would benefit from a friendly visitor.  ACVVS is funded by the Australian Government.

This is done by allocating funding to community-based organisations, such as St George Careers Development Centre, to recruit, conduct national police checks and reference checks, then train and support approved volunteers to make regular visits to socially and/or culturally isolated recipients of Australian Government subsidised aged care services.

St George Careers Development Centre matches aged care recipients with volunteer visitors, who make one-on-one visits in aged care facilities - either low care (for those who are more independent living) or high care ('nursing home' situation).

Any care recipient whose quality of life could be improved by the companionship of a regular community visitor can be referred to the ACVVS by their aged care provider, a family member, friend, or they may self-identify that they would benefit from such visits.  With the ACVVS, the most needy and vulnerable are particularly identified and offered a volunteer visitor with the idea of that visitor becoming a neighbourly friend.

Can you spare an hour or so per fortnight to be a volunteer visitor with the ACVVS?

Contact us to make a booking to volunteer in our auspiced areas - St George or Sutherland Shire:
